¡No Estoy de Acuerdo!

Estimados amigos,                         ¡No Estoy de Acuerdo!

"Yo estoy completamente en desacuerdo con usted. Isis nunca estaría de acuerdo con el diálogo aunque les tiraran alimentos, ropa, medicinas, tiendas de campaña para todos ellos. Ellos son un grupo terrorista. ¿No entienden lo que son? Ni en un millón de posibilidades  su idea funcionaría. Creo que está loco ": Una chica respondió emocionada, cuando les pregunté por sus comentarios a mi charla. Estaba un poco  afectado por  ella. Así que tan pronto como ella terminó antes de que pudiera responder, una niña estudiante compañera afroamericana respondió con lágrimas y entrecortada  por no ser capaz de terminar sus pensamientos, "…yo no estaba para nada de acuerdo con ella. La violencia nunca funciona. La no violencia es la única manera... ".
  Aquí estoy en una de las 7 charlas que he dado en la secundaria pública  Verdugo Hills. Este es al menos el cuarto año que he dado charlas aquí. Esta sobre  "Isis, Paz y No violencia" es de lejos la respuesta  más sentida que he tenido. Siempre en otros años he compartido de mis 7 años con ECAP en Colombia, donde siempre me dieron respuestas positivas, pero nunca tan fuerte como ésta. Mi sensación era de que a pesar  que parecía una idea muy nueva para todos, la mayoría de los estudiantes salieron del salón con la sensación de que esto tiene sentido.
 Una estudiante me detuvo en el pasillo en mi último día y dijo: "Realmente aprecio su intercambio, gracias por venir; le dije a mi mamá, ella dijo: “la no violencia es el camino. Creo que este tipo tiene algo”. Estoy muy animado de que ella sintiera que era lo suficientemente importante para  compartirlo  con su madre, y que su madre estuviera de acuerdo conmigo. Me parece muy esperanzador a medida que más y más estadounidenses están viendo que  la guerra no está funcionando y es cada vez peor y sólo estancándose.
Otro dijo que iba a hacer copias de mi folleto el cual  resume mi charla para darles  en su iglesia.
 Gracias por oración  y su apoyo financiero  que han permitido que este viaje ocurra  siendo  tan eficaz como hasta ahora.

Dear Friends, I have recently finished Peggy Gish’s book An Iraq Journey of Hope and Peace . It brought me to deep prayer at times, helping me to see US soldiers as human beings and breaking down some of my stereotypes of them. It also helped me experience the personal pain of Iraqis who are caught in the war as opposed to hearing statistics in the news. This was peacemaking taking place in my own heart and mind. Peggy’s honesty in sharing her own personal struggle and admitting her own mistakes is challenging to my own peacemaking. Another aspect of this book that was inspiring to me was that when CPTers in Iraq realized they were making a mistake in midst of sharing with Iraqis, they were able at times to change right then and there. This is clear evidence of the Spirit at work. It also gave me a sense of how God was able to use the seemingly small amount of people, just six or so, to make a significant difference for the good in this horrible situation.            An Incredible Prime Minister     Dear Friends, a hopeful happening,                  Two years ago, Ethiopia was a basket case. The government seemed to be losing control The majority Oromo people were restive under a rule that seemed to rob them of their place. The traditionally powerful Amhara rioted. Colombia Reports

Introduction Letter Jim Fitz is a member of Plow Creek Mennonite Church, in Tiskilwa, Illinois. He works full time in peacemaking, which includes about 3 months a year with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) in Barrancabermeja, (Barranca for short) Colombia. In the Barranca area, CPT there provides protection from the threats to and killing of various armed groups by being a nonviolent presence and witness for about 100 farm families. Jim will be in Barranca area Oct.1- Dec. 22. During the application process for Christian Peacemaker Teams, one of the first things that the CPT interviewer said to Jim, " Do you realize this is a very dangerous situation and do you have a bunch of people who can pray for you?"
