Queridos amigos, Esperanza: Cambiar la Política Colombiana 18/18/19 Ayer, el congreso colombiano votó para afirmar partes muy importantes de los acuerdos de paz que requerirían que el Ejército y los paramilitares confesaran sus crueldades a cambio de sentencias más ligeras, como hacen las guerrillas de las FARC. Esto no es solo una cuestión de justicia, sino una parte central de la curación de Colombia y de Colombia como nación y como individuos. Solo el perdón y la amnistía pueden exorcizar a los demonios que plagaron los corazones y los recuerdos del perpetrador y la víctima en Colombia. La justicia y la sanidad no pueden tener que ver con el castigo, sino con la restauración y la reconciliación. Duque, el actual presidente colombiano ha estado abiertamente (estado en las noticias) dando sobornos a congresistas para que voten en contra de esta legislación. Duque es claramente un simple títere del ex presidente Uribe. Duque está en contra de esta ley porque implementaría Uribe para la corrupción. La Corte Suprema tiene unas 3000 grabaciones de Uribe que dan órdenes telefónicas para que las personas sean asesinadas. Pero debido al poder político y al dinero de Uribe, ha podido evitar el procesamiento. (Increíble) Esta ley probablemente podría llevar a su procesamiento. El apoyo de este congreso a estas partes de los acuerdos de paz podría ser un gran paso hacia el cierre de la guerra. Un hospital militar dedicado a los soldados que han resultado heridos en la guerra está vacío debido a la tregua. Ninguna guerra es igual a ninguna herida. ¿No es genial? Uribe posee enormes ranchos en Colombia. Él es apoyado por otros grandes propietarios de ganadería. Grandes porciones de su tierra están ociosas. Existe un movimiento para imponer un impuesto elevado a esas tierras para obligarlas a vender las tierras al gobierno y luego el gobierno las transferiría a los campesinos. Significaría una reforma agraria real, un gran paso hacia la transformación de Colombia. Un médico venezolano que forma parte de la iglesia bautista aquí dice que la oposición a Maduro se compone principalmente de los ricos. Guiado es solo su instrumento. Oren por la honestidad política colombiana y venezolana. Chau, Jim o Jaime Actualización, estoy de vuelta en casa en Evanston. Mi rodilla está mejor, pero aún así no puedo caminar lejos o rápido. Dear Friends, I have recently finished Peggy Gish’s book An Iraq Journey of Hope and Peace . It brought me to deep prayer at times, helping me to see US soldiers as human beings and breaking down some of my stereotypes of them. It also helped me experience the personal pain of Iraqis who are caught in the war as opposed to hearing statistics in the news. This was peacemaking taking place in my own heart and mind. Peggy’s honesty in sharing her own personal struggle and admitting her own mistakes is challenging to my own peacemaking. Another aspect of this book that was inspiring to me was that when CPTers in Iraq realized they were making a mistake in midst of sharing with Iraqis, they were able at times to change right then and there. This is clear evidence of the Spirit at work. It also gave me a sense of how God was able to use the seemingly small amount of people, just six or so, to make a significant difference for the good in this horrible situation. Dear Friend, “There must have been 40 or 50 soldiers from the Colombian Army who came through here. They accused Jorge, my son, of being an informer for the guerrillas. I was so scared. They took his picture and asked him a lot of accusing questions. I was afraid to let him go fishing like he often does. They were all around the house.
