Hola amigos,                                                                              Llamada telefónica de las FARC
 “Hola, este es el Comandante Morales de las FARC. Estamos tomándonos su finca”. Las FARC es el grupo guerrillero más grande de Colombia.
Ante esto, José y María con su hijo Jorge salieron rápidamente con solo su ropa en sus espaldas.” José estaba llorando ya que renunciaba a su sueño de una finca para poder proveerle un futuro a su hijo “, María intervino mientras me contaban su historia.
José añadió lo siguiente: ”María estaba preñada de nuestro siguiente hijo .La finca comprendía unas hectáreas de café y mucho ganado .Habíamos contratado 20 empleados. Las FARC dijeron que querían reclutar a nuestro hijo de 8 años. Jorge, porque habían notado que era buen trabajador y por tanto sería  un buen soldado”.
 “Las FARC nos encontraron en el pueblo de donde tratamos de escapar. Las FARC enviaron cuatro tipos a su escuela y  dijeron a la escuela que los habíamos enviado a recogerlo. Los vecinos nos avisaron lo que estaba pasando, así que llamamos a la policía, la policía fue y los cuatro tipos se fueron. Gracias a Dios. Desde entonces nos hemos mudado más lejos .Muchos otros campesinos, incluyendo mi papá  han perdido sus fincas así”.

 “Muchas veces los grupos armados me dijeron a mi y a otros campesinos que vayamos al pueblo, a una tienda determinada y preguntemos por un paquete. No teníamos más remedio que cooperar, o si no… . Por supuesto que las FARC estaban extorsionando dinero de sus negocios”.

 “En otra ocasión cuando tenía 16, estaba arriando  ganado mientras Las FARC y los paramilitares se estaban dando bala en las montañas arriba. Llego un momento en que ambos grupos estaban cortando con motosierras campesinos que ellos pensaban estaban ayudando al otro bando, y echándolos al río. Los paramilitares trataron de reclutarme pero yo no quería tener nada que ver con armas. Me hubieran pagado un buen salario”.
 “Cuando yo era joven, la vida era pacífica y buena donde vivíamos. Entonces cuando llego la droga  a nuestras vidas, los campesinos se enriquecieron, vinieron los grupos armados  y los campesinos se vieron acorralados entre los dos. La guerra causa tanto sufrimiento”.
Yo respondí, “Estoy tan contento de que estén hablando en la Habana”. “Yo también”, dijo José.
Entonces después oramos juntos por algunos minutos .No puedo decir cuando, donde o para quien  era esto para su protección, por si las FARC o los paramilitares los encontraran. 
 Gracias por escuchar. Orad por un buen acuerdo de paz para Colombia y cese al fuego.

Dear Friends, I have recently finished Peggy Gish’s book An Iraq Journey of Hope and Peace . It brought me to deep prayer at times, helping me to see US soldiers as human beings and breaking down some of my stereotypes of them. It also helped me experience the personal pain of Iraqis who are caught in the war as opposed to hearing statistics in the news. This was peacemaking taking place in my own heart and mind. Peggy’s honesty in sharing her own personal struggle and admitting her own mistakes is challenging to my own peacemaking. Another aspect of this book that was inspiring to me was that when CPTers in Iraq realized they were making a mistake in midst of sharing with Iraqis, they were able at times to change right then and there. This is clear evidence of the Spirit at work. It also gave me a sense of how God was able to use the seemingly small amount of people, just six or so, to make a significant difference for the good in this horrible situation.            An Incredible Prime Minister     Dear Friends, a hopeful happening,                  Two years ago, Ethiopia was a basket case. The government seemed to be losing control The majority Oromo people were restive under a rule that seemed to rob them of their place. The traditionally powerful Amhara rioted. Colombia Reports

Introduction Letter Jim Fitz is a member of Plow Creek Mennonite Church, in Tiskilwa, Illinois. He works full time in peacemaking, which includes about 3 months a year with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) in Barrancabermeja, (Barranca for short) Colombia. In the Barranca area, CPT there provides protection from the threats to and killing of various armed groups by being a nonviolent presence and witness for about 100 farm families. Jim will be in Barranca area Oct.1- Dec. 22. During the application process for Christian Peacemaker Teams, one of the first things that the CPT interviewer said to Jim, " Do you realize this is a very dangerous situation and do you have a bunch of people who can pray for you?"
